Fun way to learn cause and effect

My son received this for his 6th birthday and he did struggle at first with putting the characters in place but caught on within a week. He loves to show people how he can set it up and describes what is going to happen before he hits the plunger and sets off the Rube Goldberg effect. We can't wait to get more sets and string them together. And I like buying the buddy packs, keeping them on hand, and surprising him with a reward for good behavior.

My daughter just got this for her 6th birthdays, a few days after watching the movie and she loves it!!! The pig wasn't included, but she has been using other figures from little pet shop and little pony and created a lot of new stories..... Very good for stimulating immagination I think. Now we are looking for more to link to this.

My son got this for his 5th birthday and loves it, but I'm not a fan. Setup: A little complicated to put everything together but not too bad (and no batteries required - hooray!). Play: It's a cute little chain reaction sequence based on the movie - press the pedal and Woody flies down the zipline, which makes Hamm escape from the bin, which makes the alien slide to safety behind Big Baby's back. It's terribly clever. Except Hamm and the alien are not included in this playset. Neither are Buzz and Rex, even though their pictures are prominently featured on the box. You only get Woody and Big Baby! We had to borrow toys from another playset to make it work. Stupid Mattel. But once we got it working, my son loved it and went through the stunt sequence over and over, switching it around. This is the only set he has but we like the idea that it can connect to other stunt sets. Storage: Miserable. There are a lot of pieces and no carrying case.

Disappointing and Frustrating

I bought this for my daughter's 5th birthday. Manufacturer says it is appropriate for 5 years and up. I have to disagree on that one. Since it is an action sequence toy, one false move sets off a chain reaction and all the setting up is blown before it can be enjoyed. This is not a toy that most young children can be left alone with to play on their own. At least in this house, if my daughter wants to play with it, then I'm playing with it too. And it's really not so much fun to begin with. She opened it, we played with it once, and it hasn't been touched since.

My son had a stomach virus and we couldn't go see the movie as planned so I bought the toy for him as a surprise the next day. How disappointing. The toy wasn't much fun without the other sets attached. It also didn't include the pig, so for the basket jump I purchased the slinky dog and dinosaur separately as the store didn't have the pig in stock. Unfortunately, the dinosaur didn't fit in the basket and the slinky dog didn't jump well. My son turns 5 in less than 3 weeks, so since the label says 5 to 7, I thought that the toy would be an appropriate play toy for him. However, even I had a hard time attaching Woody and the big baby to the assembly since I had to fit the tiny hole in their feet to a tiny little peg on the swing and the zip car. I also had a hard time figuring out how to keep the car from slipping down the zip line before we were ready to start as the piece didn't automatically lock in place. I eventually learned that if I added pressure on the back side of the hook and pushed down the swing would stay put; however, there was no mention of this on the instruction sheet. My son also had trouble putting the wooden swing back on the zip line since it fell off every time with Woody attached. As a result, he grew very frustrated while trying to set up the action link. I thought about putting the toy away for a few months but I couldn't take the toy back apart without causing damage. I also noticed that there is a stress mark on the plastic zip line after one afternoon of play so I don't think this toy will last more than a few days at most.
